505 Games has announced a new entry in the Wuchang series, which will be developed by Chengdu Recursive Dolphin Technology (Indolfinity), the studio founded by original Wuchang: Fallen Feathers creator Xia Siyuan.
Indolfinity will lead development, while 505 Games will manage funding and global publishing. The project is in early preparation, with no title, release date, or game details available. 505 Games has just confirmed it as the next game in the Wuchang series.
The announcement comes following the closure of Leanzy, the studio responsible for the original game.
New Wuchang game arrives after Linzi’s closure
Wuchang: Fallen Feathers launched on July 24, 2025, and received solid review scores, sales, and player numbers. Linzi’s Wuchang team was laid off following Xia’s departure earlier this year, when remaining employees reportedly refused to return to outsourced work. KR Asia reports that shareholders proposed changes, but the team’s refusal led to the studio being dissolved.
505 Games’ parent company Digital Brothers acquired the Wuchang: Fallen Feathers IP in April 2026. The company now owns the IP and has hired the original game’s creator for the new project. The new game has not been confirmed to be a sequel, prequel, or directly connected to the original, only that it is the next entry in the series.
The original game has since reached five million players on PC and consoles.
Wuchang: Fallen Feathers faced controversy over patch 1.5, which prevented many historically important bosses and NPCs from being killed, leaving them exhausted after combat. The update also changed dialogue and made parts of Chapter 4 easier by making several enemies non-hostile.
These changes caused significant backlash. Many believe that the update responded to criticism from the Chinese gaming community regarding the depiction of Ming and Qing dynasty history in the game. Others objected to the retcon, arguing that it harmed the plot, characters, and tone. Leanzi did not provide any detailed explanation for the change in narrative at the time.
What 505 Games has not confirmed yet and how to access
The new Wuchang game is in early preparation, and 505 Games has not confirmed the title, release date, platform, or any narrative connections to Wuchang: Fallen Feathers. The size of Indolfinity’s team and whether other original Wuchang team members have joined Xia at the new studio are also unconfirmed. More details are not expected any time soon due to the early stage of the project.
Wuchang: Fallen Feathers is available on PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X and S. The game is free with Game Pass Ultimate and was introduced on PlayStation Plus in May.
Players interested in the series can access the original during development of the new project, although 505 Games has not indicated whether the new game will continue its story or systems.
